Why Is Atta Expensive in 2026?
- Wheat is costlier: Wheat now trades at about Rs. 3,475 – 4,765 per 40kg in the mandis, against an illustrative price of Rs. 3,500 at harvest. Flour mills pass this on.
- No support price yet: The Rabi 2026-27 wheat support price has not been notified. Farmers are demanding Rs. 5,000 per maund, and traders are holding stocks.
- Higher milling and transport costs: Electricity, diesel and packaging costs push up the price, especially in Sindh, KPK and Balochistan, which buy wheat from Punjab.
- Punjab subsidy: On 10 October 2026 Punjab approved a Rs. 10 billion flour subsidy, which keeps Lahore prices much lower than other cities.
